The Simple Pleasures of Life
Centuries have passed since the dawn of mankind and many new technologies have been invented.Science and technology have made mans life simpler.A task that would have taken months to complete a few decades ago,can be completed just in a few hours today.
In the olden days,it would take a person months to travel from one place to another by ships, bullock carts etc.Today it just takes a few hours to travel the same distance because of improved transport facilities and better roads. The world has become a smaller place and going around the world is not a tedious task anymore.
Contacting our loved ones has become easier too.All we have to do is press a few buttons on a touchscreen and the message would be sent.We no longer have to take the trouble of writing a long message and sending it by post, then waiting for ages for a reply.
Mans life and his daily tasks have been made simpler, but his greed has not left him.He wants the maximum output from the twenty fours hours in a day.He gets so caught up in his work that he forgets the true meaning of life.
People work hard all day to pay for their family's expenses and try to make their lives as comfortable as possible. They buy their children the latest gadgets and set up wireless internet and phones in their house for their convenience.
However,in this process, people lose the personal touch.the children and members of the family are confined to their own rooms and do not spend time with each other.
Messaging our friends has become so uncomplicated that all we do is chat with them throughout the day.Communicating with them becomes a daily occurrence and hence we forget what it is like to wait in anticipation for a reply from an old friend.
The only time families gather together in the house is to watch television or eat at the dining table where half of the family members are on their mobile phones.
People have forgotten the pleasure of sitting together and exchanging stories and having animated conversations.Grandchildren are no longer interested in listening to anecdotes from their grandparents and parents are too busy working to get actively involved in their children's upbringing.
Travelling by airplanes is much more easier than going on foot, car or by a public vehicle, but nothing can match the joy of driving to an unknown place with nothing but a map to guide you.One meets many people during such journeys and we get to exchange our stories with them.
Reading too has become much more simpler. We just have to purchase books on our eBook readers and start reading from a screen that adjusts its brightness to our comfort.Due to this, people have forgotten that libraries exist and are unaware of the pleasure of reading even in the dim light because a story has to be finished.
Technology has given man such luxuries that even the emperors of ancient times would be envious of.Life has become much more easier than it used to be,and the existence of machines has left us with a lot of free time that we choose to waste on other machines designed for entertainment.
Instead,we should use this time to explore the beauty of life.We should wake up early and look outside our windows and see how the lazy darkness lifts to welcome the bright new day.
We should walk to our destinations if possible and feel the joy of watching the world go about its daily work.Letters can still be written,so we should write a nice long letter to an old friend and make their day.
We should spend time with our families and bring back the old dining table conversations. We should make all our loved ones realize their importance in our lives.
Our free time can also be spent in imparting education to underprivileged children.A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle and the smiles of gratefulness and true happiness are ten times better than photo shopped smiles in photographs .
We should learn to enjoy the music of the world. It takes a long time to hear it over the noise of mankind, but it is more liberating than chart busters.
Technology has just made man forget the simple pleasures of life, but it is not hard to remember them again. All we have to do is to break the wall of machines that we have built around ourselves and actually set out to live life.
